Pre-sessional Math Course for Master Students
19-23 October 2020
The course is recommended to all Master students in programs of electrical engineering or information technology. In general, students from all faculties are welcome to attend. The mathematical background that each student acquires during the Bachelors program is very diverse. This course's aim is to equalize the basic mathematical skills of all students and to build up a solid mathematical basis for your Masters study. Fundamental knowlegde in advanced mathematical methods and tools is repeated and praticed by means of examples that will appear over and over again in your Masters program. The course content is listed below.
Responsible lecturer: Dr. Steffen Weimann | Contact
A registration is required. Please contact Dr. Weimann.
Potential target audience:
Students of all engineering programs, in particular medical systems engineering.
Date of the course:
Online lecture (Zoom): 9.00-11.00 a.m.
Online seminar (Zoom): 1.30-3.30 p.m.
Concept of the course:
For one week, the course offers a lecture every morning and a seminar in the afternoon. Neither the morning lecture nor the seminar are restricted to 90min. The delivery of the content is at focus and when more time is needed it will be spent. The afternoon discussion of tasks and solutions is open end. No attempt of strict mathematical rigor is made. The content is introduced in an engineer's language based on definitions, statements and examples, as they appear throughout many advanced classes.
Content of the course:
- summation of infinite series and power series
- line Integrals in general coordinate systems
- complex numbers
- Fourier series and transforms
- ordinary differential equations
- partial differential operators and nabla-calculus
- prominent matrix operators and eigenvalue problems
